Attendance
Students must attend classes regularly for their own benefit as well as the growth and development of the class as a whole. Our dance classes are based on individual commitment; however they are fueled by team efforts. Students who miss 3 classes in a row or 6 classes during the dance year will not be allowed to participate in the recital.
During the month of April our schedule will change to prepare for our recital. Every student is required to attend all practices and rehearsal(s) during the month of April. Students who do not attend classes, practices or rehearsals during the mandatory recital month will not be able to perform/participate in the recital(s) or other performances. If there will be a conflict between an educational activity and any recital month activities, a request to be excused from dance will need to be submitted to Melissa Queen at least one month prior to the absence. You will need to submit in writing the dates your child needs to be absent and why. The document will need to be signed and dated by Parent and Student. If your child misses mandatory classes / practice due to family emergency or illness, I (Melissa Queen) will deal with that on an individual bases.
If there are any individual dance parts, highlights, skits, etc, attendance will be a factor when deciding whether or not to let a student participate. Students who attend class more than others will be asked about special roles first.
Inclement Weather
Sometimes due to bad road conditions and weather we must cancel dance classes. I usually close our studio if Granville County closes due to inclement weather. To check to see if our studio is closed please check your e-mail or call our studio phone 575-0086. I will leave a message regarding classes when a decision has been made. I encourage Parents to make their own judgment call. If the roads are bad in your area do not risk life and limb to get to dance class. Cancelled classes will be made up closer to our recital.
Ready to Dance
We should always put our best foot forward. Each student will be respectful and considerate to their fellow dancers, teachers and our studio. This means coming to class prepared with shoes, proper dance attire, and a ready-to-dance attitude. Lack of consideration, bad attitudes and disrespect from the student or parent, will not be tolerated at our studio. I (Melissa Queen) WILL NOT allow any student or parent to exhibit distasteful behavior in my presence or the presence of the students. I reserve the right to decline to teach any student who is disrespectful to me (Melissa Queen), Amy Long, the students, the assistant teachers or the parents of the students. Parents or students who display bad attitudes or disrespect will be asked not to return to our studio. Money for classes, costumes, etc will not be refunded.
Posted Information
Students and Parents are responsible for reading any posted information, reminders, etc. In addition to posting information at the studio on our bulletin board, information will be sent via e-mail if I (Melissa Queen) am provided with an e-mail address. From time to time, parents will be asked to come into the classroom at the end of class. This is to provide the parent with information to keep them informed and up-to-date.
Holidays and dates to remember
*** Our recital will be held on a Saturday in April. The day has yet to be determined. The rehearsal and recital dates are tentative and will only change if South Granville High School auditorium is not available. ***
Melissa’s School of Dance does not carry medical insurance for its students. It is required that all students be covered by their own family insurance policies and if injury occurs it is understood that the student’s own policy is your only source of reimbursement.
